I plan to open two of my own stores at the Roseboro. One will be “The Roseboro Gift Shop” featuring souvenirs and memorabilia of the Roseboro and the historic village of Sharon Springs. The other will be “Brookfair Gardens,” which will feature a wide variety of garden related products and gifts. I was in San Francisco today attending the International Gift Show where I picked up about 20 new suppliers for merchandise that I will carry in the stores.
My Project Manager, Gary O’Connor called today with a status update. He has a busy schedule this week meeting with a number of people as he continues to get estimates and prepare for the renovations. If we are unable to repair the old 1939 Otis elevator, we will look into re-purposing the existing elevator shaft to put in a Limited Use/Limited Access elevator.
We are also considering building a 2nd stairway in the middle of the Howland House to give another access to the shops on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Fire codes may require us to change some of the egresses – the emergency doorways in the building. We may have to replace current doors with fireproof doors.
While safety is our utmost concern, we will try to balance that with historical preservation and features whenever possible. We will be adding onto the existing restrooms off the lobby (keeping the old 1930s urinals, of course) and adding new ones in the ballroom area.
Stay tuned for more updates!
